COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

RP competitive dancers train anywhere from 8+ hours a week.  Competitive dancing is an opportunity for students to participate in a group and/or solo setting to showcase their talents on stage in front of a panel of judges.

Frequently Asked Questions
A list of class descriptions in the Rythum Plus Competitive Program can be seen below.
Since a number of different dance styles will be learned throughout a student's competitive career,
a dancer will always graduate from Rythum Plus being well-versed in a variety of different dance disciplines.

Stretch

Classes combine warm-up, cardio, and conditioning exercises to further develop flexibility, stamina and full body strength while decreasing the potential risk of injury.  Exercises help to increase the development of dance technique as well.  Classes are 60 minutes.  Mandatory for all competitive students.

Jazz Technique

Classes consist of down-the-room progressions and/or combinations of Jazz, Lyrical, and/or Contemporary styles.  Geared specifically to further develop jumping and turning skills while exploring stylistic creativity.  Classes are 60 minutes.  Mandatory for all competitive students.

Tap Technique

Classes consist of ankle warm-ups through articulation, down-the-room progressions, and a tap combination.  New rhythms are explored each week, using the feet in different ways to create various syncopated sounds.  Classes are 60 minutes.  Mandatory for all competitive students.

Graded Ballet (RAD)

Ballet classes from Grade 1 to Advanced Foundation are currently offered.  Classes consist of learning new ballet vocabulary, barre-work, centre-practice, petite and grande allegro, and character or pointe.  Each class is conducted with the intention that the dancers will take their final exam in the spring. Classes are 60 minutes two times a week.  Mandatory for all competitive students.

Competitive Acro Classes

Classes consist of conditioning and skill training.  Skills taught combine techniques from Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, Circus Tricks, Acro-Sport, and Tumbling.  Classes are 90 minutes.

Choreography

Choreography sessions are held weekly to prepare for competition in addition to mandatory technique classes.  Held in a variety of dance genres: Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Acro, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Open, and Hip Hop.  Therefore, the number of hours a student spends in the studio is dependent on the number of routines an individual participates in. Team practices are 45 minutes.  Solo, duet, and trio sessions are 30 minutes.
