A competitive program that allows dancers to participate in dance competitions without the full demands of a full-time competitive dancer.  These students train anywhere from 3 to 6 hours a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the commitment?
For each style of dance a dancer chooses to compete in, there will be an additional 45 minute choreography and rehearsal class per week. These are usually held on Friday nights. A 1-hour recreational ballet class, regardless of the style(s) of dance they have already chose to compete in, is often recommended.  The team will compete in the same competitions as our regular competitive dancers. A competition weekend consists of all day Friday, all day Saturday and all day Sunday, with the slight possibility of a Thursday. Competition season runs during the months of March - May. Dancers will receive a list of competitions before Christmas and the schedule for the competitions is available about 2 weeks before the competition weekend. The Part Time Competitive division is usually blocked off on one day of the entire weekend. There is a competitive dress rehearsal Showcase that is held in late February/early March for the teams to get on stage before competing. All team members are expected to attend all recreational AND choreography classes and must be available for all competitions. Multiple absences can result in being removed from the program. The Part Time Competitive team also participates in parades and other studio events.

Example:
If a student wishes to only compete in Jazz, they will be required to attend 1 recreational jazz class a week (for instance, Intermediate Advanced Jazz).  Additionally, they will need to attend a 45 minute choreography session once a week.  An extra recreational (non-graded) ballet class, once a week, is often recommended.

Q: Where are the competitions?
Frequently, the competitions are within the area of Waterloo to the GTA to Niagara Falls. However, in the past the Part Time Competitive team has also traveled to Collingwood.

Q. Are there additional expenses to be on the Part-Time Competitive team?
Yes, there are additional expenses to be on the Part-Time Competitive team including a monthly fee, costumes, and competitive entrance fees.
